Independent Venue Week comes to Leeds
With a wealth of bands on the line-up, we caught as many exciting acts as we could.
Independent Venue Week (IVW) is truly an iconic celebration of live music and the heart of local communities. It’s not just an event — it’s an invitation to immerse yourself in the vibrant energy of your city’s music scene. Whether you’re a seasoned industry insider, a long-time music fan, or simply looking for something exciting to do on a night out, IVW offers a unique chance to discover new talent and enjoy intimate performances at some of the most cherished independent venues around.
This week-long celebration highlights the incredible diversity of sounds and styles that make local music scenes so special. From emerging artists to hidden gems, IVW shines a spotlight on the venues and the people behind them who keep the live music culture alive and thriving.
I had the honour this week to be a part of the celebrations in Leeds. Kicking it off in style on Tuesday evening, Tap Water Records hosted their evening of talent, starring label artist Eszter Vida.
Eszter Vida is a dynamic and talented artist known for her unique blend of musical genres and her captivating performances. With a background that spans both classical and contemporary influences, Vida brings a fresh perspective to the music scene, effortlessly blending intricate melodies with emotive storytelling. Her music resonates with listeners through its depth, authenticity and innovative sound. Whether performing solo or collaborating with other musicians, Vida’s ability to connect with her audience has earned her a growing fanbase and recognition in the music industry. Passionate about pushing creative boundaries, Eszter Vida continues to evolve as an artist, leaving a lasting impact on the music world.
The rest of the week is packed with exciting events and Monomyth Collective are bringing their signature energy to the scene. Known for their ability to attract crowds with their ever-expanding roster, this week is no exception. If you’re in the mood for some funky vibes on a Tuesday, head down to The Domino to catch Flat Moon in all their glory. The hometown funk band is back for their “barely a tour” tour, and you can bet they’ll have the groove flowing all night long.
Then, on Thursday, we’re back at Oporto with Monomyth for another stellar night. Lucy Robinson takes the headline spot, joined by the collective’s latest addition, a.b.i., along with the incredible Lucy Kate and Chelsea Rebbecca. Trust us, these girls are absolutely killing it right now.
But we’re not done yet — far from it. Saturday brings the final Monomyth celebration of the week with their monthly residency, Secret Saturday, at The Vinyl Whistle. This is the place to be for discovering fresh, local talent, and this IVW special is no exception. Funeral Tribute, Red Shakes, Swimwear, and Lia Rye will take to the stage for an unforgettable night of new music you won’t want to miss. It’s a perfect end to a week that’s all about supporting local talent and celebrating the vibrant energy of Leeds.
So, whether you’re new to the scene or a regular concertgoer, IVW guarantees an unforgettable experience that will leave you craving more.
