Divorce return to London for an entertaining performance
The band upgraded to KOKO in Camden.
The last time I was in London watching Divorce was only in October of last year, where they professed to the sold out Islington Assembly Hall crowd that it was their “biggest show to date”. Fast forward to 2025 and the band’s debut album, Drive to Goldenhammer, is now out in the world, and they’ve got BBC Radio 1’s Greg James watching on from the audience.
If the album hadn’t catapulted them into the ears of music connoisseurs, then their hard graft on the live music circuit must’ve done it. There’s an obvious buzz around the Nottingham band — and, rightfully so, this was one hot ticket.
If you weren’t there, then you missed frontman Felix’s mum donning clown make-up and entertaining the crowd before introducing the band, and a career-defining performance from a band only just beginning their journey.
Starting off strong with album track Fever Pitch, the alt-cum-grunge-cum-country band set the mood for their return to the capital. Although, understandably so, the majority of the songs played are off their highly-anticipated debut album, they throw in some certified classics, and tracks that would’ve undoubtably lured a lot of the audience in on Wednesday night: Gears (a standalone single released in 2024), Sex & the Millennium Bridge, and two stand-outs in Scratch Your Metal and Eat My Words, all from the same 2023 Heady Metal EP.
Their debut album was well received, of course, and it translates wonderfully in a live setting, with Pill and Lord coming away as strong contenders for some of their best songs live.
It’s safe to say 2025 is the year of Divorce.
